Date Nights with the Kids
It is extremely important for couples to take regular date nights together in an effort to strengthen their relationships, but what many parents neglect is the time it takes to work on the parent-child relationships.
For many years, my family has been actively participating in date nights with the kids. Either Brian will take the girls somewhere special or I will take the boys out and it is a very bonding time for us.
This past week, Brian took the girls out for frozen yogurt (and thankfully brought me some as well). The boys and I stayed home and played a heated match of Sorry!
Date night has meant so many things to us over the years. When we were going through rough times, it gave the kids a break from the stressors in our lives and let them just relax a little. It allows for us to talk to the kids about personal things without the other parent present. Sometimes, they can open up a lot easier when they are only facing one “boss”.
I love how excited the kids get about getting their nicest clothing on and looking nice for these special times. You can tell that it means an awful lot to them.
I am curious…do you do this in your family? Tell me about some places you go.
